Urusei Yatsura supported by Maxim and Voyeur

Review By KRiS

We enter to see the entire crowd sat down staring at Voyeur...

And Voyeur suck like very few metal bands have sucked before. The singer is good at wearing leather dresses, but unfortunatley has no such proficiency in the department of singing. A very bad cross betweeen Tampasm and Lodestar. They did nothing to engage the crowd, as was proved by the display of mass apathy.

Maxim fitted the bill sound-wise, even if they were a touch reliant on samples. They sounded something like a brit-pop band after a run in with The Almighty. But they have absolutely no style at all - blue leather trousers with Jarvis style zip up tops? The twin guitars were catchy and engaging, but overall the band need to take long hard look at what theyre trying to achieve, and who theyre aiming to appeal to.

On record, Urusei Yatsura achieve a magic mix of tuneful noise and atonal melodies that has to be heard to be believed. The word on the street is that they're even better live...

From somewhere deep within the opening feedback appears the most beautiful melody. - So maybe the street was right.

They appeared very shy however, with Fergus refusing to sing a verse of low fi on his own and the bass players hair covering her face for most of the gig You try coming up here in front of this many people and not being shy In fact the audience heckle among themselves which is highly entertaining. One girl wants to fuck the bassplayer to the response we all do. The band dont say a word...
Song-wise we get Kewpies like Watermelon and Strategic Hamlets, both of which rock to high heaven, but overall there was a definite emphasis on new songs as opposed to old favourites - where was Plastic Ashtray and Siamese? You people are supposed to have memories like goldfish comes back the reply. Overall it was an entertaining night, but it could have been so much more. I guess given time the new songs will be loved, but it was too much too soon.

Biggest mistake of the evening - asking for a bottle of Dog...huh?
